We took a 1-hour high-speed train from Rome in the morning (although it was delayed almost an hour!) and spent just over 24 hours in Naples. Naples is a city with its own unique history and this really shows when you visit. The city centre is colourful, loud and bustling, in contrast to the tranquil seafront, from which you have an amazing view of Mount Vesuvius.

We happened to visit Naples on the day the Guinness World Record was broken for the longest pizza ever made. The pizza ended up being 1,853 metres long! But we did not get fed here as we had planned to go to the pizza restaurant: Antonio e Gigi Sorbillo. Arrive early as the queue gets really long!

A famous Neopolitan dessert, the Rum Baba is saturated in a sugary rum syrup. These are everywhere in Naples, as well as a pastry called a Sfogliatella.

Walk around the city centre, picking up gelato and snacks along the way, and of course coffee!
Visit the Museo Cappella Sansevero to see some jaw-dropping statues.
Then to the Castel dell’Ovo, a medieval fortress which is free to explore and offers great views of the sea and Mount Vesuvius. Hire bikes and cycle along the waterfront.
After dinner, finish the night off with a few glasses of wine and late night rum baba in the city centre.
